Play Therapy
Definition of Play Therapy by the Association for Play Therapy (APT) (www.a4pt.org)
Play Therapy is defined by APT as “the systematic use of a theoretical model to establish an interpersonal process wherein trained Play Therapists use the therapeutic powers of play to help clients prevent or resolve psychosocial difficulties and achieve optimal growth and development."
I am a Registered Play Therapist (RPT) and play therapy is conducted by graduate-level mental health professionals who have met the required education, clinical licensure, and additional specialized training and supervision specific to Play Therapy.
Play is the language most of us learn to communicate with those around us. From peek-a-boo to games like Mother May I, play activities becomes a part of how we communicate especially when words become difficult. I am a registered play therapist and may use this therapy as part of your child's counseling sessions to help build up language, communication and practicing of coping skills to help your child improve upon their symptoms or cope with different life situations.
